# A 35 foot Tiara, and only six rods on it

Enough boat to be comfortable when it gets sloppy, small enough that everyone on board gets fished. Air conditioning, a real head, and a deck that is set up to catch fish rather than to look good in photos.

## What kind of boat do you fish from?

Gradyful is a 35 foot Tiara sportfisher running out of Pompano Beach, Florida, licensed for six anglers, with an air-conditioned cabin, a full stand-up head, outriggers, a live bait well and a clear fishing cockpit.

### What you are stepping onto

Six anglers is a United States Coast Guard limit for an uninspected passenger vessel, and it is the number the whole boat is built around. More rods in the water do not mean more fish in the box. They mean more tangles.

On a deep sea fishing trip we work the reef edge a mile off the beach in 60 to 120 feet, the wrecks in 150 to 400 feet, and the blue water out past 700 feet when the mahi and the tuna are there. The captain who runs her is [Shawn Safris](https://gradyful.com/about). [Check a date and lock it in](https://gradyful.com/contact).

### The things that actually matter on a long day

### Air conditioning and a real head

Two things that decide whether the non-anglers in your group enjoy the day. Somewhere cool to sit down and a stand-up restroom, not a bucket.

### Rigged for every way we fish

Outriggers and kites for sailfish and live bait, a live well, deep-drop gear for the wrecks and light spinning tackle for the reef. We can change the plan on the water without going back in.

### Shade, seating and a clean deck

The cockpit stays clear. Coolers, ice and the fish box are where they belong, so nobody is stepping over gear while a fish is on.

## How far offshore do you go?

It depends on the fish. The reef edge is about a mile off the beach in 60 to 120 feet, the wrecks sit in 150 to 400 feet, and the blue water starts past 700 feet. Every one of those is inside a 25 minute run from the dock.

Not to scale. The whole spread sits inside a 25 minute run from the dock, which is why a four hour trip here is a real fishing trip rather than a boat ride.

Inshore and the inlet

0 to 20 ft · about 5 minutes from the dock

Snook, tarpon, jacks. Where we go when the ocean is too rough to enjoy.

The reef edge

60 to 120 ft · about 10 minutes from the dock

Yellowtail and mutton snapper, kingfish, bonito. The most consistent fishing we have.

The wrecks

150 to 400 ft · about 20 minutes from the dock

Amberjack, grouper, big mutton. Drop straight down and hold on.

Blue water

700 ft and out · about 25 minutes from the dock

Mahi, sailfish, wahoo, blackfin tuna. Weed lines, frigate birds and the Gulf Stream edge.

Every photo on this page came off this boat, most of them posted by guests alongside their reviews.

## Captain Shawn answers his own phone

No booking engine, no call center, no back and forth with a receptionist. Tell him the date and how many people, and he will tell you straight whether the fishing is worth your money that week.
